Sonny started his career as a dancer before moving to and focusing on teaching full time. Currently, he has been teaching jazz dance technique at Sylvia Young Theatre School for over 15 years. He also teaches Matt Mattox based Isolation Technique at both Arts Ed School of Musical Theatre and at Emil Dale Academy. He has taught for the Royal Academy of Dance both in the UK and Internationally for over a decade and has also taught at establishments such as London Vocational Ballet School (formerly known as Young Dancers Academy) and The Place.
Through his years of teaching and alongside it, Sonny has been offered many opportunities to choreograph for a variety of work on stage and screen. He has also in the past been employed to work with music artists to help develop movement skills and confidence for live performances.
For screen, Sonny has choreographed commercial campaigns for Sainsbury’s, Littlewoods, Weetabix and Asda. He has choreographed live public flashmobs for Walkers Crisps and for TV shows such as BBC’s ‘The Rob Brydon Show’. He has worked with production companies such as Merman, Freud Communications, Moxie Pictures, Weilands and AMV BBDO.
For stage, his choreography has been performed at events such as ‘Move It’ (Main Stage), ‘West End Live’ (Trafalgar Square), ‘Evening Standard - Get Reading’ (Trafalgar Square), ‘The Lord Mayors Show’ (London Parade) and ‘The Stable Gala Concert’ (Lyric Theatre). He has choreographed dance pieces performed at Sadlers Wells, The Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre and The Landmark Hotel. Sonny also choreographed for the West Ham FC cheerleaders at Upton Park Stadium.
From his years of teaching and choreographing young professionals, Sonny particularly works exceptionally well with children.
